Our organization, with the help of 12 permanent and several contract staff and volunteers, serve community members throughout Fort Saskatchewan and Sturgeon Region. Our programs, made possible by funding from a variety contracts, grants and donations, can be seen as falling into 3 categories: Early Childhood Education, Parent Education and Family and Community Support.
Our Early Childhood Education Play Programs include Kids Can Cook, Wiggles & Giggles, Play Pods and the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program. Families are referred by community members themselves, Children's Services or Families First staff if they are considered vulnerable for any number of reasons (for example low income, low literacy level, postpartum depression, socially isolated, young parent). Such strong and important connections are made at these programs; connections parent to parent, parent to child, child to child, and family to community!
Our Parent Education Programs include Triple P, Creating Confident Kids, Parenting through Connection, Kids Have Stress Too and Handle with Care. These evidence informed programs are for parents who want more tools for their parenting tool box. Children's programing is available so that lack of childcare is not a barrier that prevents parents from attending. These programs are open to the general community, however, referred families take priority.
Our Family Support programs are the programs that tend to be geared toward a specific target group. Our Family Violence Prevention Program assists individuals who have experienced domestic violence. Community Kitchens is for parents with a limited budget who need a little extra help to get nutritious meals on the table for their family. Home Visitation offers in home support to families and caregivers who would benefit from increased knowledge in infant and child development. Health for Two is the prenatal care we offer to women who are pregnant, and looking for information on the healthy prenatal development of their baby. These women also receive free prenatal vitamins and milk coupons.
